Ophthalmology

Ophthalmology is the branch of medicine that deals with the diseases and surgery of the visual pathways, including the eye, brain, and areas surrounding the eye.

The board certified veterinary ophthalmologist has extensive training and experience in diagnosing and treating eye diseases in small and exotic animals. Examination with slit lamp biomicroscopy and indirect ophthalmoscopy are routinely performed. Diagnostic services such as fluorescein staining, measurement of the Schirmer Tear Test, evaluation of intraocular pressure with applanation tonometry, flushing of the naso-lacrimal system and gonioscopy might also be performed during the examination. Further diagnostic and surgical procedures are also available.

CERF (canine eye registration foundation) examination and certification and genetic counseling for dogs in breeding programs are also available.
