Kaitlin (Katie) Curran is a proud Pacific Northwest native, born and raised in beautiful Seattle, Washington. She earned her BS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Yale University, where she was a four‑year varsity letter winner on the Yale Women’s Rowing Team. Katie always knew she loved teaching, but her passion for veterinary medicine truly took shape in college. While working as a research assistant in a marine biology lab, a mentor suggested she spend some time in a veterinary clinic—especially after she began naming individual barnacles (apparently not standard practice in invertebrate research!). After just one week shadowing a small animal veterinarian, Katie realized she had found the perfect blend of science, animals, and teaching in veterinary medicine.

Dr. Curran graduated from Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (GO COUGS!) in 2011. She then completed a small animal rotating internship at Colorado State University (CSU), followed by a medical oncology residency at CSU’s Flint Animal Cancer Center. Katie thrived in CSU’s busy, collaborative, and innovative environment. By the end of her residency, she had also earned an MS in Clinical Sciences and gained extensive experience caring for radiation, post‑surgical, and clinical trial oncology patients.

After achieving ACVIM board certification in 2015, Dr. Curran was thrilled to return to the Pacific Northwest and join the faculty at Oregon State University’s Gary R. Carlson, MD, College of Veterinary Medicine. Teaching and mentoring the next generation of veterinarians and oncology specialists remains especially meaningful to her, and she continues to work part‑time at OSU.

In joining the wonderful team at OVRA, Dr. Curran is committed to providing clients with clear, comprehensive information about diagnostic and treatment options. With rapid advances in veterinary oncology, she values helping clients choose the plan that best fits their goals and their pet’s needs. She works closely with consulting and referring veterinarians and appreciates every opportunity to support patients and families, contribute to education, and nurture hope in the face of cancer.

Outside of work, Katie loves spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys exploring Oregon’s natural beauty with her husband, their Labrador, and their two kids. At home, the family is completed by Cleo—their beloved (and very elderly) long‑haired tabby.
